  1. Why Pictures Can Be as Valuable Resources in a Writing Class?

They can provide a shared learning experience in the classroom, students find the need for the use of common language forms that they can become comfortable to.
There are a variety of tasks that can be done with our students to keep them interested in writing without them even noticing it. (This blog for example)
The use of pictures it’s a strategy to promote communication in the classroom, when students try to convey real information to each other or just describing images that they see on posters, textbooks, magazines, etc.

The lesson cannot be limited to what they see on the picture, students can make inferences, and predictions about the world beyond the picture…let them imagine what happened before the picture was taken of what happens after.

In order to go a step further and try for the student to connect with their writing we could ask them to bring their own picture and write the story behind the picture, this can have personal meaning for them.

Students can describe the picture, compare or contrast their findings with a partner or group. Ask them to write down what they would do in a certain situation seen in the image or what they would change from the picture if possible and why.
There are so many more activities that can be done through pictures to introduce writing in our classrooms and this way students can see that writing can be fun as well.
