Hello!
In today’s world, there is definitely a growing need to learn how to use language appropriately in context.
Contextualization refers to meaningful language use for communicative purposes within a given
situation or context (content.)
Please select a level and a content area, then come up with a topic and explain in a 5-line paragraph how you would contextualize language in your class, for the specific level and content you chose.

Students will pretend that they are in the restaurant and call the waiter, order food as they do in real life,(all have to be done in English). After the activity students will share they experiences and will understand why consumers are important for producers and vice versa.

Upper grades (4th to 6th) Class: Social Studies Topic: Our Environment: land and water in the United States
ResponderBorrarFirst I will introduce the seven continents, types of landforms, and bodies of water. Students will read about the land and water in the U.S. and they're going to write the words that they don't understand and look for the definition. Then I will hand out two Work sheet of paper where in one paper they're going to identify and write the name of each landform and bodies of water and in the other page they will label the States in each of the five U.S. regions.
Upper Grades (4th-6th) Science class: Body parts
ResponderBorrarStudents will learn the pronunciation of the parts of the body and how to talk about them, when we hurt or feel sick, by watching a video to have an idea to write a conversation in pairs to talk about it. When you as a patient and visit a doctor, you need to describe how you feel and the doctor will ask you that you need to point it in which part of your body you feel it. After they finished the conversation they do the role play.
I chose lower grades (1st to 3rd) Class: Science, Topic: Parts of the plant.
ResponderBorrarTo begin the class I post a chart with a draw of a plant and the names of each part pasted next to them, then explain to students the function of tha parts. After the explanation will remove the names of the parts and divide the class in the same number of part of the plant, then give one name to each group and based on the explanation that I tell them again they will paste the name in the right space of the chart.
Psychology for High School (10th grade-12th grade)
ResponderBorrarTopic: Self Esteem
Organize the classroom in a half circle for a discussion and ask students what is self-esteem to them and write it in a sheet of paper for later. Help them understand that self-esteem refers to how we understand and value ourselves.
People with high self-esteem feel competent in areas they consider important and do not take other people's negative impressions of them too seriously.
People with low self-esteem have a hard time honestly evaluating their strengths and weaknesses and often have an unrealistic, overall negative impression of themselves. Tell students that an important first step in building self-esteem is taking a realistic look at their strengths and weaknesses and likes and dislikes.
Another activity besides the discussion is to have student fill out a “personal inventory” to help them achieve better self-understanding.

Topic: Places around the country
I would start my class by getting the whole group together, to catch everyone's attention.
Then I would start by telling a made-up story that talked about me going on vacations to different places of our country, and according to the story going through a map of Honduras, showing where the places are located, and pointing them.
To involve students into the activity, I would ask them if they have relatives around the country, and that they show me in the map the place where they live, just to make sure they remember some cities of Honduras.

Lower grades (Kinder – 3rd)
Topic: Using the Senses
To contextualize in an effective way for smaller children, that might have a little of struggles understanding some terms. It is a great tool to use a reading story to engage them in the topic. This is the way I use reading books to connect children to Science and Social Studies topics.
Reading story: Listen, Listen
After reading the story to children. We would discuss how people use their senses to find out about the world. This story is about a boy, so I would ask them What is the boy doing? What does he hear? I would point out that hearing is one of the senses. I would Explain that the other senses are sight, touch, smell and taste.
We could use pictures from the story to discuss different information observed in different places and seasons. Like What do the people on the beach see? What do you think they might smell? What can they feel?
Then you continue with the Five senses lesson….
P.s. I added kinder since our amazing career is in The teaching of English no matter the age. We know about the process of language acquisition and how a bilingual brain works. This is an important fact for us to know… You know Mr. Monge since you are teaching Fundamentos de pre-basica y basica right!! :D :D :D Our career is amazing!!
